Coordinating volunteer resources to meet the needs of RI's urban public schools

During the spring of 2012 Serve Rhode Island launched a pilot volunteer recruitment and placement effort at Roger Williams Middle School in Providence.

After the successful pilot, Serve Rhode Island expanded to Slater Middle School in Pawtucket to launch its in-school volunteer and community engagement program with the two large urban public schools. Serve Rhode Island works very intentionally with the two large urban public middle schools to meet their specific needs with the appropriate volunteer resource.

While working formally with Roger Williams and Slater Middle schools, Serve Rhode Island works with public schools in the core urban districts to bring other volunteer resources and community engagement resources to their schools. Volunteers are need for one-on-one academic support and mentoring, ESL/ELL student support, after school programs, and school improvement effort like classroom makeovers and school transformation projects.
