Volunteering at Serve Rhode Island has been a wonderfully rewarding experience. The staff works tirelessly to improve the quality of life in Rhode Island and has reached to the far corners of this state's communities. Dedicated and energetic, they seek to recruit, engage and match volunteers with great causes. I have been inspired by the Serve Rhode Island team and their work. I consider myself privileged to be helping them achieve their goals.

I have been a volunteer docent at the Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design for over 11 years. My joy is to enrich youngster’s lives by sharing art and coordinating it with their school’s curriculum. Over the years, I participated in many hours of learning and touring.
I believe the arts feed the human spirit. Art fuels the imagination allowing children to grow and stretch beyond their boundaries. Unfortunately, many schools have been eliminating art from their programs, while others do not have the funding to transport children on worthwhile field trips.
Because of this, with fellow docents, I decided to develop a program dedicated to bringing those students who normally might otherwise not be able to come to the RISD Museum. This program is called the Angel Project. The objective is to cover the costs of transportation and entrance fees. The fundraising opportunities to support this program have already had an impact. “Me and all my friends of the fifth grade would love to come back and take another tour for a FULL day,” says Jolie, from The Learning Community in Central Falls.
Service is very important to me. Service with children is even more important.

When I first heard of Americops, I didn't think it could possibly be used by governmental powers to slowly begin to enforce new enviro-laws and initiatives per the United Nations, but now I see that they are being groomed as the " New Civilian National Security Force ' just like President Obama said. Now i see that the new Brownshirts also wear Red Jackets and T-shirts bearing the names Americorps and City-Year. LIke corporate ill-intent all wrapped in pretty wrapping paper with a temporary do-gooder theme. Americore is getting creepy.

My first volunteer effort began around the holidays when I packed Thanksgiving meals; that was rewarding, but I know I have truly found my calling through The Human Kind Experiment. I have been able to give back to the community as a volunteer in the Providence School system, and my first day assisting bright, motivated 6th graders at Roger Williams Middle School did not disappoint. I work with appreciative teachers and students in a field that I love...thanks for giving me this opportunity! Additionally, I have been a part of the strategic development team for this education initiative, and I can say first hand, that Serve RI really does care about its volunteers! Thanks for making RI a better place.
